Are Desktop Webcams Supported?
Our SDK is optimized and overwhelmingly used on smartphones, and that is what we test it with.
Although it is technically possible to use a desktop browser with an attached webcam, the results are usually not great, as these cameras are often not suitable for barcode recognition. Our SDK relies heavily on the quality of the camera image and fast auto-focus capabilities. This does not tend to be a strength of webcams.
Laptop and USB webcams are often limited by the bandwidth of the interconnect between the camera sensor and the CPU/main memory. There are also economical factors limiting the performance of these cameras compared to even average smartphone cameras. That's why for now, we do not recommend using a desktop webcam with STRICH.
